Do you own a UK based business? Does your business have it’s own website, or is this something that you have been considering recently? Afterall, more and more business is being done online now, so why not stake your claim in cyberspace and give your business it’s very own web domain. Did you know you can now get a Free UK web Domain at names.co.uk?
What is a Web Domain
When you build a website and put it on air,, it will need what is called a Domain. this is your websites address. The place where all your websites files can be found. This will be the place your visitors will go when they click on your domain URL. A typical web domain will look something like; https://kwidzin.org or www.kwidzin.org.
Your domain is your little bit of cyberspace real estate. In fact, just like physical real estate, the value of your domain can increase depending on what value it offers and there are many people who make their money by building websites for their domains and then selling them on later at a much higher value to someone who either ants a rready made website, or to someone who really wants that domain. So domains have become a whole marketplace in themselves.
Free UK Web Domain
That’s right, at Names.co.uk you can register a .co.uk or .uk domain absolutely Free. They will of course try to upsell you on SSL certificate, Email, Proxy servers a web builder etc. These can actually be quite expensive in themselves compared to other companies. But you can quite easily just uncheck these boxes and purchase the domain name alone and get everything else you need elsewhere online at a cheaper price.
Free web page
When you register a domain name at names.co.uk, you will automatically get One free page for your domain. This is the landing page that visitors will arrive at when they click on your websites URL. If you are just looking for a very basic internet presence for your business, then this one page can often suffice. You can always provide as many links as you like to anything else your business has online. This could be Galleries, blog, LinkedIn or other Social media profiles for your business. In fact, many small businesses today actually run their business from Facebook but like to have a fully fledged website and domain available but use it to direct their visitors onto their Facebook page here they can conduct their business with their client.
It may well be that you already have an established website with a .com or.org domain that you use globally but would like to show a flagship presence online to show that you are active within the UK. You can register a .co.uk or .uk domain and either have your visitors redirected to your main website or you could customize it to reflect your businesses UK presence but with all links pointing back to your main website.
If you think you’re going to need more than just the one page for your website, you can add Webhosting to your order which starts at £3.49 per month. This is completely optional though and there’s nothing to stop you finding hosting elsewhere if you so wish and connecting your names.co.uk domain to it.
Names.co.uk also offer SSL Certificates from £5.50. If you want your website to have any success in this day and age, you will need one of these. This lets Google and your visitors computers know that your site is safe from viruses and other security threats. You may want to shop elsewhere for one. There’s no problem buying one elsewhere for your names.co.uk domain if you can get one cheaper from another provider.
They also have a DIY web builder that lets you drag and drop and customize your websites appearance. this starts at £6.99 per month, but to be honest, i think it’s a bit expensive really. i like to use WordPress which is open source and has a whole range of Plug-ins that you can install Free to do pretty much anything you want with your website.
Get a .com domain for only £1.99
Being able to register a free UK domain is good and well if you are a UK based business and only really looking to communicate with UK visitors. But if your business or project is global or non geographically restricted, then you are better off with a .com or .org name for your website. This is one of the most striking things that grabbed me with names.co.uk is that you can buy a .com domain for only £1.99. Again, they ill try to upsell you on all the extras but like above, just uncheck the boxes and proceed to purchasing the domain alone. This deal is also restricted to one per person. But you could always ask a friend or family member if you really wanted a second one.
Choose your own domain
Names.co.uk also offer a whole range of custom domains at competitive prices. This might be useful if you are a Non UK geographically specific business. Or perhaps the .com domain you had your mind on is already taken (you can actually send offers to the owner of this domain through your names.co.uk dashboard). You may want to go for a .org domain which are only £3.50 or a .net domain. They also have a plethora of novelty domains available too like.info, .online, .club, .gay & hundreds more.
My own opinion of Names.co.uk
well, as far as most of their services go, i find them a little bit on the ex[pensive side. But as far as domains go, these guys really do have a good deal going, especially with .com domains and of course the .co.uk and .uk domains which are both FREE. So, i’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking to purchase a domain name as even their non special offer domains sell at competitive prices. I would however, personally, uncheck the boxes where they try to upsell you, leave all the other services and products out and just purchase the domain itself and you have a good deal. Of course, if you’re UK based, it’s an even better deal as you can grab yourself a domain name completely Free.
